On May 7, 2004, the Lambda Epsilon chapter was installed at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, TX. Shelby MacFarlane, National Vice President of Extension and Fraternity Development, and Jamie Reimer, province officer of Xi A, officiated at the installation. Gamma Phi, Zeta Sigma, and the Fort Worth Alumnae Chapters were also in attendance. That night, 15 student members and 7 patroness members were installed, and Dr. Allen Reed, Dean of Music at Howard Payne, was inducted as a Friend of the Arts. Originally, Lambda Epsilon started out as the petitioning chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota named Striving After Integrity.
The process of starting a chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota began several years prior to the installation when Dr. Amy Rosine came to Howard Payne as a voice professor. She told the female students about how she was involved in SAI in college and how much she wished there were an SAI chapter at HPU. The students were immediately ready to begin the process. However, the chapter struggled to get enough people interested, especially since Howard Payne had such a small student body.
Two years later, the desire to start working on forming a chapter arose we were able to generate more interest in SAI. While a petitioning chapter, the charter members of Lambda Epsilon took on the anagram: Striving After Integrity. Then, after a year of petitioning, hard work, dedication, and a lot of paperwork, the petitioning chapter finally became an official chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota and a member of Greek Life at HPU.
